“The Secret Garden”

“The Secret Garden”

The Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is a charming illustrated book about a girl named Mary Lennox. She is a spoiled and sickly child who lives in India. When her parents die because of a cholera epidemic, she moves to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her rich uncle in England. Things are a definite change for her. She meets all sorts of people like Martha, Dickon, and Colin. Martha is a maid on the grounds who have taken a fancy to Mary, and Dickon is her brother. It is a story about a secret garden which holds many secrets inside it! In the secret garden is where magical things take place!

Dolphins Call Each Other By Name

Dolphins Call Each Other By NameBottlenose dolphins call out the specific names of loved ones when they become separated, a study finds.

Other than humans, the dolphins are the only animals known to do this, according to the study, published in the latest Proceedings of the Royal Society B. The big difference with bottlenose dolphins is that these communications consist of whistles, not words.

Earlier research found that bottlenose dolphins name themselves, with dolphins having a “signature whistle” that encodes other information. It would be somewhat like a human shouting, “Hey everybody! I’m an adult healthy male named George, and I mean you no harm!”

Video: Shark Cage Diving!

Kavi360

I can hardly believe that it’s already been over a year since one of the most thrilling experiences of my life: shark cage diving! While I’m still awaiting those pictures from Gita and Sunil (hint, hint!), I did find this funny video I made a while back, using footage from our diving trip off the coast of Gaansbai, South Africa, AKA Shark Alley. As you can see, we had a blast!

Would you ever go shark cage diving? Tell me, what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Deep thoughts, by Chick & the ‘Bug

Love and a Six-Foot Leash

Life is a little crazy these days with our miniature human arriving any day now. Granted, the boys’ perspective is that life is ALWAYS a little crazy thanks to them.

Anyhow, with life being double-crazy and concentration being hard to come by, we’re going to leave it to the dogs to do all of the deep thinkings for the next couple of weeks. So in lieu of your regular programming, you can look forward to Monday-Wednesday-Friday “Deep Thoughts” by Chick and Doodlebug for a little while.

We’ll be back with regular blogging as soon as we can, and in the meantime, enjoy!
